Kupferschiefer Petrogr.|ˈkʊpfəʃiːfə(r)| Also 9 Kupfer-schiefer; and with small k. [a. G. kupferschiefer, f. kupfer copper n.1 + schiefer shale, slate.] A bituminous brown or black shale of the Permian series, which is worked in Germany for copper; = copper schist, -slate (copper n.1 11).
