Kiswahili|kiːswaˈhiːlɪ| [Native word, f. ki- prefix designating an abstract or inanimate object + Swahili.] A major language of the Bantu family, spoken widely in Kenya, Tanzania, and elsewhere in East Africa, where it serves as a lingua franca.
