ambilineal, a. Anthropol.|ˌæmbɪˈlɪnɪəl| [f. ambi- + lineal a.: cf. matrilineal a., patrilineal a.] Designating or pertaining to a kinship system in which an individual may choose to claim membership of either the father's or the mother's lineage group, but not both.
