vauxite Min.|ˈvɔːksaɪt| [f. the name of George Vaux (1863–1927), U.S. mineral collector + -ite1.] A secondary mineral that is a hydrated basic phosphate of aluminium and ferrous iron, Fe2+2Al2(PO4)2(OH)2·6H2O, and occurs as blue, transparent triclinic crystals, usu. in association with paravauxite and wavellite.
