uroporphyrin Biochem.|jʊərəʊˈpɔːfɪrɪn| [ad. G. urinporphyrin (H. Fischer 1915, in Zeitschr. f. physiol. Chem. XCV. 34): see uro-1 and porphyrin.] Any of a group of porphyrins, occurring esp. in the urine during certain types of porphyria, in which each of the pyrrole rings has one acetate and one propionate side chain.
