Ellis in Linnæus Systema Naturæ (ed. 10, 1759) II. 1088): etym. unkn.] The dried rhizome and roots of the herb golden seal or yellow root (Hydrastis canadensis), or an extract or tincture of them, formerly used medicinally as a bitter stomachic and to control uterine bleeding.
