ˈslap-tongue, v. Also slaptongue, slap tongue. [f. slap v.1 + tongue n.] intr. To produce a staccato effect in playing the saxophone by striking the tongue against the reed. So ˈslap-tonguing vbl. n.; hence ˈslap-tongue a., playing or played with this technique.
