ˈhorse-ˈmackerel A name for several fishes allied to the mackerel; esp. the Cavally or Scad (Caranx vulgaris). Also in various parts of U.S. the common Tunny, the Jurel (Caranx pisquetus), the Bluefish (Pomatomus saltatrix), the Black Candle-fish (Anoplopoma fimbria), the Californian Hake (Merlucius productus), and the Ten-pounder (Elops saurus).
