[mod. f. Gr. ὅρο-ς boundary, limit + ὀπτήρ one who looks. Cf. F. horoptère (1694 in Hatz.-Darm.).]
A line or surface containing all those points in space, of which images fall on corresponding points of the two retinæ; the aggregate of points which are seen single in any given position of the eyes.
1704J. Harris Lex. Techn., Horopter, in Opticks, is a Right Line drawn thro' the Point of Concourse, parallel to that which joyns the Center of the Eye[s].1876Bernstein Five Senses vii. 135 The imaginary figure in space, in which all points are seen single, is called the Horopter.1876Foster Phys. iii. ii. (1879) 507 For any given position of the eyes there exists in the field of vision a certain line or surface of such a kind that the images of the points in it all fall on corresponding points of the retina. A line or surface having this property is called a Horopter.
