hidrotic, a. and n. Med.|hɪˈdrɒtɪk| [ad. med.L. hidrōtic-us, a. Gr. ἱδρωτικ-ός, f. ἱδρώς, -ῶτος sweat. Cf. F. hidrotique.] A. adj. Of or pertaining to sweat; causing sweat; sudorific; diaphoretic.
1727–41Chambers Cycl. s.v., Carduus benedictus..angelica, etc. are of the number of hidrotics, or hidrotic medicines. 1886Syd. Soc. Lex., Hidrotic acid..believed formerly to exist in sweat. H. fever, Blundell's term for those cases of puerperal fever in which profuse perspiration is a marked symptom. B. n. A medicinal agent causing perspiration.
