All Black, n. (and a.) (usu. ˈɔːl blæk, but stress somewhat variable) [f. all adv. + black a., from the colour of the players' strip.] 1. a. In pl., usu. with the. The familiar nickname of the New Zealand international Rugby Union football team. The name was first applied to the team by British journalists at the beginning of the 1905 tour of Britain.
