agonothet(e Gr. Antiq.|əˈgəʊnəθiːt, -θɛt| [ad. Gr. ἀγωνοθέτης f. ἀγών contest + θέτης a disposer; f. vbl. stem θε- to place. Also used in the Gr. forms.] A superintendent or director of the great public games of Greece.
