The name of a college, the largest of the ancient English public schools, founded by Henry VI on the Thames opposite Windsor, used attrib. or Comb. a. Eton boy, a pupil at Eton College.

b. Eton jacket, a short black broadcloth jacket, with an open front and broad lapels, pointed at the back and cut square at the hips, formerly worn by the younger boys at Eton (and elsewhere); also a garment of similar cut worn by women; hence Eton-jacketed adj. So Eton suit, a suit consisting of an Eton jacket with trousers and waistcoat; also, a woman's suit with a similar jacket and a skirt. Often ellipt. Eton (and in pl.).

e. In the phrases Eton-and-Harrow, Eton-and-Oxford, used (chiefly attrib.) to designate a person who has been at Eton or Harrow, or Eton and Oxford, or the characteristic manner, speech, behaviour, etc., of such a person.
