trans. To inoculate with the virus of syphilis, as a means of cure or prevention; also, to infect with syphilis.
1854H. Lee Six Lect. Syphilitic Infection v. 50 He [sc. Turenne in 1850] concluded that the third inoculated ulcer bore the same relation to the second as the second did to the first, and so on until the animal became proof against any further inoculation. The animal was then said by M. Auzias [Turenne] to be ‘syphilised’.
