1956Vitamins & Hormones XIV. 234 The name ecdysone,..pointing to the significance of the active substance for all molting processes, was proposed..for the pure, chemically defined, substance after isolation of the prothoracic gland hormone. 1961New Scientist 2 Nov. 279/3 The moulting hormone (ecdyson) is produced at intervals by the thoracic glands under the influence of another hormone secreted by certain cells in the brain. Ibid., Adults do not normally produce any ecdyson, but if this is provided artificially they can be induced to moult again. 1968Nature 9 Nov. 601/2 The ecdysones control moulting in three diverse classes of arthropods besides insects. |
