‖ ratissage Econ.|ratisaʒ| [Fr., lit. ‘scraping, raking in of stakes’.] A device whereby the Bank of France calls in a portion of its country's commercial banks' foreign currency balances, and so temporarily improves its reserves of foreign exchange.
