▪ I. pupillary, pupilary, a.1|ˈpjuːpɪlərɪ| [ad. F. pupillaire (1409 in Godef.), or L. pūpillāris pupillar a.1] a. Of or pertaining to a person in pupillarity. b. Belonging to a pupil or scholar. pupillary substitution (Rom. Law): nomination of a substitute to take on the death in pupillarity of an institute who had succeeded; in effect, a testament made by a father for his child living or posthumous, to take effect in the event of the latter dying under puberty and before he could make one for himself.
