‖ streptococcus Bacteriology.|strɛptəʊˈkɒkəs| Pl. -cocci |-ˈkɒksaɪ|. [mod.L. (Billroth), f. Gr. στρεπτό-ς twisted (see strepto-; taken by Billroth to mean ‘chain’) + κόκκος berry.] A form of bacterial organism in which the cocci are arranged in chains or chaplets.
