depsidone Chem.|ˈdɛpsɪdəʊn| [a. G. depsidon (Y. Asahina 1934, in Acta Phytochimica VIII. 34), f. prec. + -one.] Any of a group of compounds related to the depsides and found almost exclusively in lichens, having the benzene rings joined by an ether linkage as well as by the ester linkage.
1935Chem. Abstr. XXIX. 147 The remaining compds. of the orcinol group of Zopf have, in addn. to the depside linkage, a diphenyl ether linkage between the ortho OH groups with the consequent formation of a closed-ring structure. These compds. have been termed depsidones. 1959New Biol. XXIX. 86 Nineteenth-century chemists investigated the lichen acids very thoroughly... They established that the acids are all either depsides, which are rather readily broken down by alkalis, or depsidones, which are not so broken down. |
