paurometabolous, a. Entom.|ˌpɔːrəʊmɪˈtæbələs| [f. Gr. παῦρο-ς little, small + metabolous.] Having, or of the nature of, slight or imperfect metamorphosis, as in orthopterous insects.
1895Cambr. Nat. Hist. V. 199 The changes of form [in the Orthoptera] are much less abrupt and conspicuous than they are in most other Insects. The metamorphosis is therefore called Paurometabolous. |
