decyl Chem.|ˈdɛsɪl| [f. Gr. δέκα ten + -yl.] The tenth member of the series of hydrocarbon radicals having the formula CnH2n+1; the monatomic alcohol radical C10H21; also called decatyl. Used attrib. in decyl series, decyl compounds, decyl chloride, etc. Hence derivatives as ˈdecylene, the olefine of the decyl series C10H20; deˈcylic, of or pertaining to decyl, as in decylic alcohol, decylic hydride, etc. So ˈdecine, the liquid hydrocarbon C10H18, the ethine or acetylene member of the decyl series.
