- (1901-60) a US film actor who was especially famous in the 1930s and 1940s. He was sometimes referred to as the 'King of Hollywood'. His best-known role was as Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind. Gable won an Oscar for his part in the comedy It Happened One Night, and his other films included Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) and The Misfits (1960) with Marilyn Monroe.
