- (1917-93) an English writer, best known for his novel A Clockwork Orange (1962). He wrote many different types of novel, including Earthly Powers (1980), a description of the main events of the 20th century from the point of view of an imaginary character. He also wrote books and newspaper articles about literature and music, and several pieces of classical music.
