A digital storage element consisting of a parametric oscillator in which a binary digit is represented by the phase (0 degrees or 180 degrees, corresponding to 1 or 0) of the output signal relative to that of an applied reference signal of the same frequency.
Origin
1950s; earliest use found in ETJ of Japan. From parametron from parametr- + -on, perhaps reinforced by possible blend of parametric and -tron.
