Now rare noun A device which converts a sequence of signals into a static (time-independent) form; a device which converts a series of bits arriving successively to an array of simultaneous states, thereby storing them; specifically a delay line that accepts a sequence of signals as input and sets up a circulating pulse train that continues until the delay line is reset.
