A native or inhabitant of Cuba or the Philippines who, in the 1890s, did not actively support the uprisings against the Spanish government. Also occasionally more generally (informal ): a pacifist.

Late 19th century; earliest use found in Middletown (New York) Daily Argus. From Spanish pacifico, use as noun of pacifico peaceful, pacifist. With more general use perhaps compare politico, musico.
