A virus disease of citrus plants which causes scaly patches or small pustules and gummy deposits to develop on the bark, beneath which the wood becomes stained.
Origin
Late 19th century. Either from ancient Greek ψώρα itch, mange, (also) a disease of trees + -osis, or perhaps directly from Byzantine Greek ψώρωσις mange, scurvy.
