Any of various skin diseases affecting the chin; specifically = sycosis.
Origin
Mid 16th century; earliest use found in Thomas Elyot (c1490–1546), humanist and diplomat. From classical Latin mentagra an eruptive disease occurring on the chin (only attested in Pliny) from mentum chin + ancient Greek ἄγρα a catching, after classical Latin podagrapodagra and chīragra.
