Baryon Star
Baryon Star
a hyperdense celestial body consisting primarily of heavy elementary particles. It is believed that a baryon star is made up of a hyperon nucleus (density, p ≥ 1015 g per cm3), an intermediate neutron layer, and a shell of degenerate electron-proton gas (p < 1.28 • 107 g/cm3). The bulk of the star is concentrated in the nucleus. A baryon star in equilibrium has a maximum possible mass 1.7 times the mass of the sun and a radius of 10 km (with a shell only hundreds of meters thick). Baryon stars are of interest for the theory of star formation.
