Godwin's Law

Godwin's Law

(usenet, humour)"As a Usenet discussion grows longer, theprobability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitlerapproaches one." There is a tradition in many groups that, once this occurs, that thread is over, and whoever mentionedthe Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was inprogress. Godwin's Law thus practically guarantees theexistence of an upper bound on thread length in thosegroups. However there is also a widely recognised codicilthat any intentional triggering of Godwin's Law in order toinvoke its thread-ending effects will be unsuccessful.
