There is commodity farming (mostly coffee and cotton) in the southeast as well as meat and dairy animal husbandry and vegetable and fruit farming. Natural rubber and babassu nuts are gathered; there is also hunting. Gold, diamonds, and nickel ore are mined on a small scale. Other industries include food and paper. The creation of a federal district in Goiás has resulted in the intensification of agricultural production in the nearby cities of Ceres, Anápolis, and Goiánia.
