nibbling diet
nibbling diet
The consumption of small amounts of food between the normal three meal-a-day regimen followed by most individuals. The terms snacking and nibbling are sometimes used interchangeably; American colloquial usage might define snacking as the “off-hour”—i.e., off-mealtime—consumption of food, usually of junk/snack foods; in contrast, nibbling is a similarly intermittent consumption of food, but usally between meals and often of healthy foods. In one study, a nibbling diet reduced the total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and apo-B by 9%, 14% and 15%, respectively; during the nibbling diet, mean serum insulin, urinary C-peptide and 24-hour excretion of cortisol decreased by 28%, 20% and 17%, respectively.
