Galaţi Demonstration of 1916

 

a demonstration by the workers of Galaţi (Rumania) on June 13 against the imperialistic war. The massacre of the Galaţi demonstrators (nine people were killed and several dozen wounded) provoked reactions by the workers of Bucharest, Ploieşti, Brăila, and other cities. On June 19, 1916, in response to the repression, more than 15,000 Galaţi workers went on a general strike and held a new demonstration.
