Gleason, Andrew M. Gleason, Andrew M. (Mattei)(1921– ) mathematician; born in Fresno, Calif. A specialist in topological groups and Banach algebras, he was a Harvard professor of mathematics and natural philosophy (1969). A National Academy of Sciences member, he was the recipient of the Cleveland Prize (1952) and was president of the American Mathematical Society (1962–63). |
