i. A call sign prefix used by regulatory authorities, such as the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority), or others engaged in flight inspection or certification of navigational aids and flight procedures. The word recorded may be added as a suffix (e.g., “Flight Check 320 recorded” to indicate that an automated flight inspection is in progress in the terminal areas).
ii. A proficiency check in actual flight of a pilot or other air crewmember(s). An authorized examiner conducts a flight check.
iii. A check made in an airborne aircraft to determine the efficiency and extent of coverage of some piece of equipment, such as a radio or a radar aerial navigational aid.
