De Long Islands
De Long Islands
a group of islands—Jeanette, Henrietta, Bennett, Vil’kitskii, and Zhokhov—located in the East Siberian Sea. The islands are part of the Yakut ASSR. Their total area is approximately 228 sq km, and their elevation ranges to 426 m (the island of Bennett). They are formed primarily of basalt and sandstone. About one-half of the total area is covered by glaciers. The group was named after the arctic explorer G. W. De Long.
