Askol’d and Dir
Kievan princes of the second half of the ninth century. According to data from chronicles, Askol’d and Dir were boyars of Riurik. Around 866, under the leadership of Askol’d and Dir, Rus’ launched the first campaign against Constantinople. According to the chronicle, Askol’d and Dir were killed around 882 by Oleg, the prince of Novgorod, who captured Kiev.
