Estonian Horse

 

(also Klepper), a breed of draft horse of the northern forest type. It was developed in antiquity in what is now Estonia. At the turn of the 20th century it was improved through crossbreeding with Arabian and Finnish stallions. It was brought to Russia in the late 17th century. The coloration is red, bay, black, or gray (sometimes with a stripe down the back). Stallions weigh 480–490 kg, and the mares, 450–460 kg. The Estonian horse is used for hauling and farm work. The horse’s maximum pulling capacity is 4,895 kg. The Toric breed was developed on the basis of the Estonian horse. The Estonian horse is bred in the Estonian SSR.
