AntennariaAntennariaa genus of plants of the family Compositae. They are perennial grasses and, sometimes, subshrubs, with entire leaves. The tubular flowers are in calathide heads or in cymose or capitate inflorescences; sometimes they are solitary. There are approximately 50 species (according to other data, as many as 100), distributed in the temperate and arctic latitudes (except Africa). Seven to nine species are found in the USSR, predominantly in the arctic and alpine mountain zones. Cat’s-foot (Antennaria dioica), which grows in pine forests, in dry glades, on slopes, and in meadows, is a low plant with rosettes of leaves and a white, velvety pubescence. In some plants the flowers are only pistillate and usually pink; in others the flowers are bisexual, sterile, and predominantly white. Antennaria blossoms in spring and early summer. Several species, including A. alpina and A. dioica, are grown as ornamentals. Antennaria
