Certified lumber

General shorthand term for lumber that has been certified sustainable harvest by an independent certification authority. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is the independent authority recognized in the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. The underlying guidelines are for preservation of a diverse sustainable forest that exhibits the same ecological characteristics as a healthy natural forest.
