Consumer Safety Act 1978 Consumer Safety Act 1978 a UK Act which empowers the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry to make regulations in respect of a product so as to prevent or reduce the risk of personal injury or death. This Act subsumes the Consumer Protection Acts 1961 and 1971 and the regulations previously made under these Acts covering, for example, gas and electric fires, electric blankets, cooking utensils and perambulators.
