Nikolai Severov

Born Feb. 18 (Mar. 2), 1887, in Tbilisi; died Feb. 21, 1957, in Kiev. Soviet architect. Member oftheCPSU from 1954.

Severov graduated from the St. Petersburg Institute of Civil Engineering in 1915. From 1918 to 1948 he worked in Tbilisi. He was chairman of the Architects’ Union of the Georgian SSR from 1935 to 1948. From 1922 to 1948 he taught at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts, where he was a professor. In 1948, Severov settled in Kiev. His works include the reconstruction of the S. Dzhanashia Museum of Georgia (1927–29), the building of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Georgia (1929–30), the Cheliuskintsy Bridge (1935), the Rustaveli Motion-picture Theater in Tbilisi (1939), and the House of Rest of the Council of Ministers of the Georgian SSR in Gagry (1935). He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
