Special Features:Once the site of Centenary College, which originally opened in1826 as the College of Louisiana, the school was closed during the Civil War. Its buildings were used by bothConfederate and Union troops, and for a time the dormitories served as ahospital. Although the college reopened after the war, it neverregained its former prosperity and later moved to Shreveport, where itremains today. The West Wing dormitory and a professor's cottage arethe only buildings of the original college still standing, and thesehave been preserved to interpret the history of higher education inLouisiana.
