Connally, (Thomas Terry) Tom

(1877–1963) U.S. representative/senator; born near Waco, Texas. A lawyer, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives (Dem., Tex.; 1917–29) and the U.S. Senate (1929–53). He was a conservative on domestic policy, supporting Southern business interests and opposing anti-lynching legislation; but he was an influential internationalist on foreign policy issues, supporting U.S. participation in the United Nations and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
