Location:On Long Island's south fork, 6 miles west of Sag Harbor.
Facilities:Viewing sites, trails.
Activities:Fishing, hiking.
Special Features:Beach habitat provides nesting areas for threatened piping plovers and least terns. The waters surrounding the refuge are considered critical for juvenile Kemp's Ridley sea turtles and are occasionally used by loggerhead sea turtles.
Habitats: 187 acres of bay beach, brackish and freshwater ponds, kettle holes, tidal flats, salt and fresh water marshes, shrub, grassland, maritime oak forest and red cedar.
Access: Every day from 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset. The beach peninsula is closed from early April through mid-August to protect nesting piping plovers.
Wild life: Waterfowl, wading birds, shorebirds, piping plover, and songbirds, white-tailed deer, red fox, eastern cottontail, chipmunks, and gray squirrels.
