class restriction class restrictionThe requirement of certain T lymphocytes for the presence of either class I or class II major histocompatibility complex markers on antigen-presenting cells. These markers enable the T cells to recognize and respond to foreign antigens. CD4+ T cells require class II antigens and CD8+ T cells require class I antigens.
