Anzus (Australia, New Zealand, United States), a military alliance between Australia, New Zealand, and the USA formed by a treaty signed in San Francisco (USA) on Sept. 1, 1951. The treaty went into effect on Apr. 29, 1952; its period of validity is not specified. ANZUS members participated in the preparation of SEATO and became members of that organization. ANZUS is one of the alliances in the system of aggressive military blocs of the Western powers directed against the USSR and other socialist states and against liberation movements in Southeast Asia.
