Branco


Branco

 

a river in Brazil, a left tributary of the Negro River of the Amazon River basin. It is formed by the confluence of the Uraricoera and Tacutú rivers. With the Uraricoera, which originates on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Parima as the Parima River, the Branco is 1,300 km long and drains an area of approximately 195,000 sq km. It flows over the Guiana Highlands and the Amazon Basin lowland. There are flash floods in the summer (June and July). The mean flow rate is approximately 5,400 cu m per sec. The Branco is navigable to the village of Caracaraí; in high water it is navigable as far as the city of Boa Vista.
