Complexones

Complexones

aminopolycarboxylic acids and their derivatives used in complexonometry and in water softening, the preparation and development of color film, and other technical processes. In analytical practice the following are used: nitrilo-triacetic acid N(CH2CCOOH)3, known as complexone I; ethyl-enediaminetetraacetic acid (HOOCCH2)2NCH2CH2N(CH2-COOH)2, known as complexone II; and the disodium salt of this acid known as complexone III, or trilon B. For most complexo-nometric titrations, complexone III, which forms stable complex compounds with many cations, is used. In addition, trans-1,2- diaminocyclohexanetetraacetic and diethylenetriaminopenta-acetic acids, which form even more stable complexes than complexone III, hold considerable promise.
