Established: 1980.
Location:50 miles west of Pensacola, Florida, and 50 miles southeast of Mobile, Alabama, in the town of Gulf Shores.
Facilities:Trails.
Activities:Canoeing, fishing, hiking.
Special Features:Loggerhead and green sea turtles nest on the refuge's beaches between mid-May and mid-August.
Habitats: 7,000 acres of coastal lands, including beaches with sand dunes, scrub forest, fresh and saltwater marshes, freshwater swamps, and uplands.
Access: Open year round during daylight hours.
Wild life: Endangered Alabama beach mouse, green and loggerhead turtles, ospreys, herons, pelicans, shorebirds, raccoon, coyote, flying squirrels, six-lined racerunner.
